Firearms License Application Process

The process is now electronic. The Firearm License application can be found at www.in.gov/isp/firearms.htm

The electronic application process is as follows:

  1. Go to the Website in.gov/isp
  2. Select Firearms Licensing
  3. Properly complete the application-(the address on the application must match the address on your driver’s license)
  4. Pay the State fee online
  5. Schedule fingerprint appointment-also done online on the website.
  6. Once fingerprints are completed bring your printing receipt, along with the local fee and a valid form of Identification to FWPD at 1 E Main St., Records Division (1st floor), Ft. Wayne, IN.

A properly completed firearm license application will be transmitted from the applicant’s computer to the proper police agency for approval. Once approved by the local police authority the application is electronically transmitted to the Indiana State Police Firearms Section for further processing. The entire process can take up to 12 weeks. Questions can be directed to 260-427-1222 or 260-427-1340.

How do I go about getting an accident report on line?

The web site to purchase a copy of your accident report is:

The cost of the report is $12.00.

There are a few requirements that must be met to successfully make the purchase. They are:

  • You must have the incident report number
  • You must have the name of the insured
  • You must have the date of the accident
  • You must have a credit or debit card to make the purchase
  • Accident reports will be available two to three days after the incident.

Fort Wayne’s Drone Ordinance –
Key Provisions You Should Know

City of Fort Wayne Municipal Code Section 96.30 requires that drone pilots notify the City before any flights in these specific areas:

  • Above the Downtown Aerial District, a circular area over downtown with a radius of 5500 feet from the 100 block of W Main St (GPS coordinates of 41.080325, -85.140652;
  • Above or within 500 yards of a city-permitted public event such as a festival, block party or parade.

While the ordinance requires prior notification of drone flights is these circumstances, it is not an approval process. Drone pilots are encouraged to know the laws and regulations for legal and safe commercial or non-commercial flight operations, as the ordinance also prohibits any drone flights that are conducted in an unsafe manner.

The Fort Wayne Police Department is responsible for enforcing the ordinance, and violations can range from a warning, citation and/or the impoundment of drone equipment for up to three (3) business days.
