Fugitive Murder Suspect Arrested

Date: April 5, 2024

Arrested: Quantdre Mersier, Male, 30yo, of Fort Wayne, IN

Local charges: Level 5 felony warrant: Failure to appear, carrying a handgun without a license; Level 5 felony: Prohibited Person in possession of a handgun

Fugitive Charge: Class AA Felony Murder warrant; Minot, North Dakota

Details:

In December of 2023, the Fort Wayne Police Department’s Gang and Violent Crimes Unit (GVCU) was contacted by detectives from the Minot, ND police department for help with locating Quantdre Mersier. Mr. Mersier was wanted for a November 17, 2023 shooting that resulted in the death of Ansu Kamara in Minot, ND. Mr. Mersier also had an active local felony warrant for carrying a handgun without a license. GVCU detectives, along with the United States Marshals Service (USMS), began a lengthy investigation to locate Mr. Mersier.

On April 4, 2024, the Fort Wayne Police Department received an anonymous tip that Mr. Mersier was back in Fort Wayne. GVCU detectives, with the assistance of the USMS, began surveillance on a possible location and observed Mr. Mersier enter into a vehicle. GVCU detectives were able to safely get a traffic stop on the vehicle in the 2800 block of Dexter Dr. and took Mr. Mersier into custody without incident. During the incident, Mr. Mersier was found to be in possession of a handgun, resulting in a new felony charge of Prohibited Person in possession of a handgun.

Quantdre Mersier was transported to the Allen County Jail to address his local charges as well as await extradition to Minot, North Dakota.
