Officer Involved Shooting

On Monday October 30, 2023 at approximately 2105 hours, Officers with the Fort Wayne Police Department were dispatched to the 1800 Block of W Main regarding an armed person. Several individuals called 911 regarding an adult male who was removed from an area bar, now firing a handgun in the street. The individual was said to be shooting into several buildings, homes and vacant business along West Main Street.

Officers arrived on scene to the individual still discharging his firearm. Actions taken by the suspect resulted in officers discharging their service weapon. In the resulting exchange the suspect was struck. Officers detained the male and began rendering aide until Medics arrived. The suspect was transported to a local area hospital in Nonlife-threatening condition, but later downgraded to life-threatening condition.

No officers or other individuals were injured during the incident.

This incident remains under investigation with the Fort Wayne Police Department, Allen County Prosecutor’s office, and Indiana State Police.
