Date: 7/27/2021

Location: 724 W. Creighton Ave.

Time: 4:19 PM

Details:

On July 27th, 2021 at approximately 4:19 PM dispatched received a call that a male and female were in a domestic dispute. A neighbor called dispatch stating a child came over upset because her parents were arguing and the father had knives in his hands.

When police officers arrived they observed the male subject in the yard with knives in his hands. Officers attempted to talk with the male but he retreated into the home. The female half of the dispute had minor injuries and was removed from the scene for her safety. For public safety, officers blocked east and west bound traffic on Creighton Ave. They attempted to make contact with the male through a loud speaker and calling his cell phone. The male refused to respond to direct communication. At times the male would yell out a bedroom window and make threats to hurt himself and burn down the house. At this time, it was believed the subject had barricaded himself into one of the upstairs bedrooms.

The Emergency Services Team (EST), Crisis Response Team (CRT), and Aerial Services Unit (ASU) were called out to the scene. The male subject refused to talk with members of CRT. He would periodically come to the bedroom window and continued making threats to hurt himself and burn down the house. Officers could see the subject was still carrying the knives.

After several failed attempts to make contact with the subject, EST made entry to the room and placed the male into custody at approximately 6:20 PM. No injuries to members of the police department or to the male subject were incurred during this time. However, the male had non-life threatening self-inflicted lacerations and was immediately taken to a local hospital for medical treatment.

The investigation is being held by the Fort Wayne Police Department and the Allen County Prosecutors Office.
