Fatal Vehicle Accident

On July 15th, 2021 at approximately 10:13 am Officers with the FWPD were dispatched to a two vehicle traffic accident involving an injured person at Stellhorn Rd. and Woodway Dr. Preliminary investigation indicates that a white SUV was traveling east on Stellhorn Rd. and was attempting to make a left turn from the turning lane to go north on Woodway DR. A motorcycle was traveling west on Stellhorn Rd and the white SUV turned into the path of the motorcycle colliding with it. Both vehicles were driven by adult males who were the solo occupants of the vehicles.
The driver of the motorcycle sustained life threatening injuries at the scene and was immediately transported to a local hospital by TRAA; where a short time later he was pronounced deceased by hospital medical staff. The driver of the white vehicle sustained minimal injuries and remained at the scene with Officers.
Initial witness statements advised that the motorcycle was driving at a high rate of speed and weaving in and out of lanes. The driver of the motorcycle was wearing his helmet at the time of the accident. The FWPD Fatal Accident Crash Team made the scene and took over the investigation. The roadway was closed during the processing of the scene.
This incident remains under investigation by the Fort Wayne Police Department, Allen County Prosecutor’s Office, and the Coroner’s Office.
