Personal Injury Accident

Date: 12/16/2021

Location: 7200 E State Blvd

Time: 7:13 AM

Details:

On Thursday December 16, 2021 at approximately 7:13 AM, officers with the Fort Wayne Police Department responded to a personal injury accident involving a juvenile pedestrian that was struck by a vehicle in the 7200 block of East State Blvd. As officers and paramedics arrived on the scene, they located a juvenile lying in the roadway.

Paramedics provided medical attention to the juvenile before transporting him to a local hospital where he was listed with life threatening injuries. At this time, officers with the Fort Wayne Police Department’s Fatal Accident Team (FACT) along with the Air Support Unit were dispatched to the scene to document the scene and collect any evidence.

Investigators on the scene advised that initial reports indicate that a pickup was traveling eastbound on State as another vehicle turned off a side street in front of the pickup. As both vehicles were approaching the intersection of State Blvd and Busche Street, a school crossing guard was attempting to walk into the roadway to stop vehicular traffic. The driver of the pickup stated that the vehicle that was traveling eastbound in front of his vehicle continued past the intersection as his vision was obstructed and he was unable to see the crossing guard and the child that had entered into the roadway.

The driver of the pickup stayed at the scene and is cooperating with investigators. State Blvd is closed for a period of time while the crash scene is being investigated. Officers with the Fort Wayne Police Department have been monitoring and enforcing school crosswalks in an attempt to slow traffic and ensure that students get to and from school safely.
