Single Vehicle Crash

Date:  11/12/2020

Time:  12:03 AM

Location:  Broadway and Taylor Street

Details:

On Thursday, 11/12/2020, at approximately 12:03 AM, an officer with the Fort Wayne Police Department was on routine patrol and observed a Honda Accord speeding and driving without any headlights or taillights activated. The officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop at the intersection of Taylor Street and Thompson Avenue. The driver failed to stop and fled northbound on Thompson Avenue. The vehicle pursuit was eastbound on Taylor Street approaching Broadway when the driver lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle left the south side of the roadway and struck a pole in a nearby business parking lot. The driver and sole occupant of the Honda exited the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot. The driver ultimately complied with the officer’s verbal commands and was taken into custody without incident. The duration of the vehicle pursuit was less than one minute before the vehicle crashed.

Officers determined the driver is 15-years-old. He is reported as an active runaway and the Honda is reported as an active attempt to locate vehicle. Medics transported the juvenile to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Crash Investigators were summoned to process the scene since the crash involved a vehicle pursuit and a juvenile with injuries. This incident remains under investigation by the City of Fort Wayne Police Department and the Allen County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
