Life-Threatening Crash

Date:  March 23, 2024

Time: 1:40pm

Location:  Hoagland Ave and W. Taber St.

Details:

On March 23, 2024, at 1:03pm, officers with the Fort Wayne Police Department responded to a report of a crash at the intersection of Hoagland Ave and W. Taber St. Officer arrived and found an adult male, who had been driving a moped, on the ground next to Jeep. The adult male was determined to be in life-threatening condition and was taken to a local hospital where he remains in life-threatening condition.

Initial information indicates the adult male was driving a moped northbound on Hoagland Ave, and the Jeep, driven by a juvenile male, was stopped at the stop sign westbound W. Taber St. The investigation has not yet uncovered the order of events or what exactly transpired, but the jeep made a southbound turn onto Hoagland Ave, and it appears the moped driver lost control of the moped, crashed, and both the moped and driver slid towards and possibly against the jeep. It will be determined through investigation if the moped or driver ever actually made contact with the jeep. Further, investigators are hoping to establish the reason for the moped driver losing control. The juvenile driver of the Jeep was uninjured.

Crash investigators are currently taking measurements and analyzing and tire marks, skid marks, etc. They are going door to door in search of any homes or businesses who may have video surveillance. The Air Support Unit is also taking measurements and documenting the scene from above.

This incident remains under investigation by the Fort Wayne Police Department and the Allen County Prosecutor's Office.
