Attempted Murder

On August 6th, 2022 dispatch was call and advised “someone was shot in the yard”. When police arrived on scene they found the victim lying in the yard with a gunshot wound. They immediately rendered aid. Medics arrived and transported the victim to a local hospital with life threatening injures.  

The victim was an adult male, 41yrs of age. The suspect in the shooting is a 19yr old male, Jevonte Bates. The victim and Mr. Bates mother, Jevonda White, were in a domestic dispute. Mr. Bates is being accused of shooting the victim during the dispute.

When police arrived, it was believed Mr. Bates was in the home of the yard they found the victim in. Police loud hailed for anyone in the home to come out. Shortly after Mrs. White exited the home with her children. Mr. Bates did not exit with them. It was believed Mr. Bates was still in the home.

At approximately 6:20 PM EST, CRT, and ASU were requested to make the scene to assist with placing the armed suspect into custody. CRT attempted to make contact with the suspect on numerous occasions without any success. After obtaining a search warrant for the residence, EST entered the home. Mr. Bates was not in the home; however, he was arrested at a different location by Fort Wayne Police.

Mr. Bates was arrested and charged with attempted murder. Mrs. White was arrested for an outstanding warrant issued on 7/28/22. She was also charged with Felony Domestic Battery towards the victim. The victim is in critical condition.
