Date/Time of Incident:          06-04-2017  1:02 AM

Location of Incident:              Calhoun and Tillman

Victim:                                    Adult Male

On  Sunday June 4, 2017 at approximately 1:02 AM officers with the Fort Wayne Police Department responded to the area of Calhoun and Tillman in reference to a hit and run crash investigation. While officers were responding to the scene, a witness called into dispatch advising that they had witnessed the crash and were following the suspects vehicle. A short time later, officers observed a vehicle matching the description of the vehicle involved in the crash.

Officers activated their emergency equipment and attempted to conduct a traffic stop with the vehicle. The suspect vehicle refused to stop and pull over at which time led officers on a vehicle pursuit. During the vehicle pursuit, the vehicle drove the wrong way (northbound) on Clinton Street. Officers deployed stop sticks in an attempt to stop the vehicle. The vehicle finally came to a rest after the tires were deflated near the intersection of Creighton and Clinton (while still facing northbound on Clinton).

Officers initiated a felony traffic stop with the vehicle while ordering the driver out of the vehicle. The driver refused to exit the vehicle. After giving several additional commands to have the driver exit the vehicle with the driver still refusing to exit, officers managed to remove the driver from the vehicle and apprehend him.

The driver was transported from the scene to a local hospital where he was listed initially in critical condition but after a short time was upgraded to serious condition. At this time, it was not determined the exact nature of the drivers injuries.

This incident remains under investigation by the Fort Wayne Police Department and the Allen County Prosecutors Office.
