Date: Aug 7, 2017
Time: 12:53 am
Location: 1200 Block of Maumee Ave
Victim(s): 1 Adult Male
On Aug 7, 2017 at 1253 am Officers on routine patrol observed a vehicle in the area of Lafayette and Brackenridge speeding. Officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop, at which time the vehicle fled from officers. The vehicle turned East on Jefferson and continued fleeing at a high rate of speed. After a short pursuit the driver of the vehicle lost control of the vehicle and left the roadway in the 1200 Block of Maumee Ave. The vehicle struck a fire hydrant along with a large sign for the Indiana Tech Campus before coming to rest.
Officers then began to administer medical aid to the driver until the paramedics arrived on scene. The driver was taken to a local hospital by paramedics in critical condition. Upon arrival at the hospital the driver was then upgraded to serious condition by doctors.
The Fort Wayne Police Department Crash Investigation Team was called to the scene to investigate the accident. Preliminary information indicates that speed was a contributing factor to the accident. As a result of the accident Eastbound traffic on Jefferson was shut down at Division Street. The roadway will remain closed until the Crash Investigation Team completes their investigation.
This incident is being investigated by the Fort Wayne Police Department and the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office.
