Victim(s): 1 Adult Female (Serious Condition)
On July 25, 2017, at 1:16hrs, the Fort Wayne Police Department was notified that an adult female had been taken by a private vehicle to a local hospital, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. This female was initially determined to be in critical condition, but was later upgraded to serious condition.
Initial information indicates the victim was leaving work at Burger King, located in the 300 block of E. Jefferson, and was getting ready to drive herself and other employees out of the parking lot. At least one suspect approached, and attempted to rob the occupants of the vehicle. The victim accelerated to get away from the suspect, at which time the suspect began shooting into the vehicle, striking the victim. The victim then continued driving to the hospital. No one else in the vehicle was injured.
During this time, another employee was preparing to enter the car, but ran on foot as the attempted robbery began. Police used a k-9 to try to track this employee to check his well-being; the k-9 track was unsuccessful, but he was later located unharmed.
The suspect fled on foot, and there is no description available at this time. Detectives and crime scene units are currently processing the scene, searching for and collecting any evidence. Investigators will be going to all of the nearby businesses searching for any available surveillance footage. The victim and other employees will be interviewed at the earliest opportunity.
Anyone with any information is asked to contact police. This incident remains under investigation by the City of Fort Wayne Police Department, and the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office.
