Date: Thursday, March 13, 2014
Time: 1:35 a.m.
Location: 124 Esmond Street
Arrested: Elgin M. Davis M/27
The Fort Wayne Police Department responded to 124 Esmond Street at 1:35 a.m. this morning on the reported domestic disturbance. Once on scene it was learned that Mr. Davis had earlier arrived at the location and confronted an adult female, his ex-girlfriend. Davis was barred from having any contact with the female per a court issued “No Contact” order due to a previous domestic incident involving the two.
Officers soon learned that Davis had threatened to shoot the female and any officer that tried to enter the home. After approximately one hour of unsuccessfully resolving the standoff a decision was made to have our EST and CRT teams deployed to handle the situation. Prior to our specialty teams arrival the female was able to safely escape the home and retreated to the safety of uniform officers that were surrounding the home. Once on scene CRT team members attempted to communicate with the suspect but their attempts were refused. Members of the EST team then introduced several rounds of gas into the home but Davis still refused to exit. A robot was deployed which found Davis hiding in the basement of the home. Shortly thereafter Davis surrendered to members of the EST team without incident. No firearm was discovered and there were no injuries.
During this standoff police were required to block vehicular traffic on Esmond Street between Calhoun and Clinton and on Calhoun from Pontiac to Wildwood. Traffic was restored to normal at approximately 6:30 a.m.
This incident remains under investigation by the Fort Wayne Police Department and the Allen County Prosecutors office.
