For Immediate Release
March 7, 2014
Date: Friday, March 7, 2014
Time: 8:35 p.m.
Location: Meyer Road 150’ North of New Haven Avenue
The Fort Wayne Police Department responded to the report of a pedestrian struck on Meyer Road north of New Haven Avenue at approximately 8:35 p.m. this evening. Once on scene officers did find an adult male down in the roadway unresponsive. He was transported to a local hospital where physicians have determined his condition to be critical.
Investigators have determined that the victim was walking in the roadway northbound on Meyer Road when the driver of a Nissan Pathfinder who was also northbound on Meyer struck the victim. A witness to the incident traveling the opposite direction told investigators that the victim was dressed in all dark clothing and was extremely hard to see. The driver of the Nissan stated to investigators that he never saw the victim before impacting with him. It was also discovered that the victim was wearing stereo headphones at the time of the accident. At this time there is no reason to believe that the driver was under the influence, but as is protocol in this types of investigations a blood draw will be conducted to conclusively rule in or out the presence of alcohol or drugs.
This incident is being investigated by the Fort Wayne Police Department, the Allen County Coroners office, and the Allen County Prosecutors office.
