Critical Injury Accident
Date: Friday, February 7, 2014
Time: 12:15 p.m.
Location: Intersection Canterbury Drive St. Joe Road
At approximately 12:15 p.m. this afternoon the Fort Wayne Police Department responded to the report of an injury accident involving two motor vehicles in the intersection of Canterbury Drive and St. Joe Road.
Officers found two vehicles involved, a green Honda Accord and a silver Ford Crown Victoria both had sustained significant damage as a result of the collision. Investigators have determined that the Honda was traveling south on St. Joe Road at a high rate of speed when it rear-ended the Ford sending it airborne through the intersection landing well off of the roadway coming to rest on a snow pile adjacent to a sidewalk. The driver of the Ford was transported to a local hospital where he is in critical condition at this time. Witnesses to the crash stated to investigators that after the collision the driver of the Honda Accord exited his vehicle and punched the windshield of a vehicle traveling northbound on St. Joe Road. The driver of the northbound vehicle was not injured in the incident. The driver of the Honda was eventually transported to a local hospital and reported to be in stable condition.
Investigators continue to determine the cause of the accident and will screen the driver of the Honda for possible intoxication of drugs and/or alcohol. This incident remains under investigation by the Fort Wayne Police Department, IPFW Police Department and the Allen County Prosecutors office.
