The Fort Wayne Police responded to the Dollar General Store, 9149 Lima Road at 8:15 a.m. this morning on the reported robbery. Once on scene uniform officers learned that the store had been held up by a lone gunman. The suspect dressed in all black with a white bandana covering his face approached an employee while armed demanding cash. After successfully robbing the store the suspect was last seen leaving the area southbound on foot. A Fort Wayne K9 officer and his partner tracked from the store to the rear of a vacant home in the 9000 block of Village Drive where officers observed fresh footprints leading to a rear door that was found to be unlocked. Officers immediately set up a perimeter around the home and our Emergency Services Team was called in to potentially deal with the armed suspect.
At 9:40 a.m. a male black exited the home and was taken into custody without incident by uniform officers that held the perimeter. The home was then cleared by the EST team and no one else was found inside. The suspect was transported to police headquarters where he is being interviewed by detectives at this time. It should be noted items believed to be associated with the robbery where located in the home and placed into evidence.
The name of the person of interest is not being released that this time however we do anticipate that information to be made available in the very near future.
This incident continues to be investigated by the Fort Wayne Police Department, and the Allen County Prosecutors office.
