Critical Injury Accident
Incident Date: 10/01/2013
Incident Time: 12:19 AM
Incident Location: 309 MM I-69 Southbound
Victims: Adult Male / Critical Condition
On Tuesday, October 01, 2013, at 12:19AM, the City of Fort Wayne Police Department responded to the 309 MM I-69 Southbound on a report of an injury accident involving a semi. Upon arrival, Officers located the adult male driver of the semi appearing to be in critical condition. The male was taken to a local hospital where he remains in critical condition.
Preliminary reports indicate a witness reported the semi truck, which was traveling southbound, had left the roadway and had struck the sound barrier wall on the west side of the road before coming to a stop. It appears the semi had driven along the guard rail for several feet prior to breaking through the guardrail and completely leaving the road, impacting the sound barrier wall. At this time, it is too early to tell if speed, alcohol, or any medical conditions were contributing factors. There is currently no indication that any other vehicles were involved or caused the semi to leave the roadway. There were no other injuries reported and no one else was in the semi besides the driver.
Anyone that witnessed the accident is asked to call police. I-69 SB at the 309mm remains restricted to one lane while the crash investigators process the scene. There is no exact time table on when the entire roadway will reopen, but investigators are hopeful it will be before the morning rush-hour. This incident remains under investigation by the City of Fort Wayne Police Department.
