Automobile Accident-Child Struck S Hanna & S Monroe June 5 2013

Child Struck by Vehicle

 

Date/Time of Incident: June 5, 2013/7:33 p.m.

Location of Incident: Baxter Street between S. Hanna and S. Monroe Street

Victim: 15 month old female

 

Fort Wayne, Ind. - On June 5, 2013 at 7:33 p.m., immediate and extended family members gathered at a private residence located at the intersection of S. Monroe Street and Baxter Street.  During the course of the family gathering, two extended family members left the residence in a Black Ford SUV.  As the family members left the driveway, the victim, a 15-month old female, was struck by the SUV.   The driver of the SUV did not immediately realize they had made physical contact with the victim and left the scene. Family members immediately contacted the driver, who promptly returned to the scene.  The victim was transported, by other family members in a private vehicle, to nearby fire station #11 located at 405 E. Rudisill. A TRAA Ambulance was on the lot of fire station #11 and was about to respond to the call that there was an injury motor vehicle crash in the 4100 block of S. Monroe.  The fire fighters were also in the process of responding to this call when the victim arrived.  The medics and fire fighters began immediate medical treatment.  The victim was then transported to a local hospital in critical condition.  The victim was pronounced dead while at the hospital. 
 
No criminal charges have been filed at this time.
 
The name of the victim will be released by the Allen County Coroner’s Office.
 
The incident remains under investigation by the City of Fort Wayne Police Department, the Allen County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, and the Allen County Coroner’s Office.
