Location of Incident:              1900 Hobson Road

Victim:                                    Adult male; pronounced deceased at the scene. 


Fort Wayne, Ind. - At approximately 2:27 AM, officers were dispatched to the cvs pharmacy located at 2802 E State Street in reference to an armed robbery investigation. As officers arrived on the scene, they observed an individual matching the description of the suspect running southbound from the business. Officers pursued the individual as he ran into an apartment building located in the 1900 block of Hobson Road. While inside the apartment building, officers observed the subject to be armed with a weapon as shots were fired by officers. Paramedics arrived on the scene and pronounced the male deseased. The name of the victim is being withheld pending family notification and will be released at a later time by the Allen County Coroners Office.


This incident remains under investigation by the Fort Wayne Police Department, Allen County Prosecutors Office, and Allen County Coroners Office.

Fort Wayne, Ind. – The officer involved shooting incident remains under investigation at this time.  Investigators have had the opportunity to review video surveillance from in-store camera(s) at the CVS Pharmacy, and they have confirmed that the shooting victim and the armed robbery suspect are one in the same person; his identity to be confirmed and released by the Allen County Coroner.


In accordance with departmental policy, two officers have been placed on administrative leave; a thirty-one year veteran of the department who fired upon the suspect, and a second officer who was in close proximity to the shooting incident.


The incident remains under investigation with the City of Fort Wayne Police, the Indiana State Police, the Allen County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, and the Allen County Coroner’s office.  It is the department’s standard procedure when a police action shooting results in the death of any individual for the Indiana State Police to be called upon to conduct an independent parallel investigation to provide an objective view.


There were no reported injuries to any officers, or to the witness(es) at the CVS Pharmacy.
