Critical Injury Accident

Date/Time of Incident: January 27, 7:48 p.m.

Location of Incident: I-69 Northbound at the 304.6 Mile Marker

Victim: Adult Male - Critical Condition

A Nissan SUV, from Michigan, was northbound on I-69 when it lost control and struck the cement median wall. The Nissan came to a stop blocking two lanes of traffic on I-69. None of the occupants of the Nissan were injured. An Indiana couple, driving a Chevrolet Equinox, was northbound on I-69 and stopped to assist the occupants of the Nissan. An adult male exited the Equinox and began to direct traffic. While the adult male directed traffic, he was struck by a Chrysler Town and Country mini van that was also northbound on I-69. It appears, at this time, the driver of the Chrysler Town and Country did not see the adult male as he directed traffic.

The adult male victim was transported to a local hospital in critical condition. At the time of the two separate accidents, the road were slick from sleet. Investigators have determined that alcohol is not a factor in this crash.

I-69 northbound is down to one lane of traffic at this time. Drivers are urged to use caution as they travel on I-69 as the investigation progresses.

This incident remains under investigation by members of the Fort Wayne Police Department FACT Team.
