Police Alert Residents to a Series of Armed Robberies in Apartment Complexes

Residents encouraged to park in well lit areas, be aware of their surroundings,

and to report suspicious persons, vehicles, and/or activity.

 

Fort Wayne, Ind – The City of Fort Wayne Police Department is alerting residents to a series of armed robberies occurring in apartment complexes:

 

January 7, 2013, 10:58 pm - 5127 Stonehedge Blvd, Canterbury Apartments - Male and female victim reported being approached at the entrance of the apartment building by two male black subjects; both subjects were armed with handguns and robbed the victims of iPhones, purse, wallet, credit cards, and cash.  No injuries were reported at the scene. 

January 8, 2013, 12:00 am – 2026 Ardmore Ave., Autumn Creek Apartments - Female victim reported shortly after walking into her apartment building, two male black subjects entered the building also; one brandishing a handgun.  The two forced the victim into her apartment at gunpoint.  One subject held the victim at gunpoint while the second subject searched around the home.  Reported loss included a wall containing credit cards and cash, and a notebook computer.  No injuries were reported at the scene. 

January 8, 2013, 9:18 pm – 5415 N. Clinton St., Gardenview Apartments - Male victim reported being approached at his vehicle in the parking lot of the apartment building by two male black subjects; both subjects were armed with handguns and robbed the victim of his iPhone, wallet, and keys. No injuries were reported at the scene. 

January 8, 2013, 9:34 pm – 5415 N. Clinton St., Gardenview Apartments - Female victim reported being approached at her vehicle in the apartment complex parking lot by a single male black subject who was armed with a handgun and robbed the victim of her purse containing her wallet, credit cards, cash, and other miscellaneous personal items.  No injuries were reported at the scene.

January 8, 2013, 8:24 pm – 6416 Covington Rd., Colony Bay Apartments - Female victim reported being approached by two male black subjects as she was checking for mail at the mailbox.  Both subjects were armed with handguns and robbed the victim of her purse and cell phone.  No injuries were reported at the scene. 

January 8, 2013, 9:05 pm – 2122 Ardmore Ave., Autumn Creek Apartments - Male victim reported being forced into his apartment at gunpoint by two male black subjects.  Reported loss included various household items.  No injuries were reported at the scene.

Police encourage all residents to park in well lit areas, be aware of their surroundings, and to report suspicious persons, vehicles, and/or activity.  Investigators believe these incidents to be related and ask anyone with information to contact Fort Wayne Police at (260) 427-1201 or Crime Stoppers at (800) 237-STOP [7867].

For Release: January 11, 2013 

 

Fort Wayne, Ind. - Two additional similar incidents were reported late yesterday:

January 10, 2013, 10:12 pm - 8709 Gulf Dr. - Female victim reported being followed into apartment building and forced into home at gunpoint by two male black subjects.  The perpetrators then bound the hands of the residents and took several items before fleeing.  Reported loss included a television, wallets, and cell phones.  No injuries were reported at the scene.

January 10, 2013, 11:33 pm – 7529 Cold Springs Blvd. – Two male black subjects armed with handguns forced their way into the apartment home and then bound the hands of the three occupants.  The perpetrators collected several items before fleeing.  One of the victims freed himself from the ties and fired upon the fleeing suspects.  Injuries were reported at the scene; one victim kicked in the head and another victim struck about the face.

These incidents continue to be investigated by the City of Fort Wayne Police Department and the Allen County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.  Anyone with information is asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers.

For Release: January 14, 2013

 

Fort Wayne, Ind. – Two additional similar incidents were reported during the weekend:

January 12, 2013, 7:21 pm – 6416 Covington Rd. – Male victim reported that he and his wife exited vehicle in the parking lot and were walking to apartment building when approached by a male subject brandishing a firearm.  Male victim fled to the building and was chased by the perpetrator and the perpetrator struck the victim on the head with a gun before fleeing the area on foot.  No reported loss.  Possibly two subjects involved. 

January 12, 2013, 9:05 pm – 5131 Stonehedge Blvd. – Male victim was in carport when approached by male subject brandishing a firearm.  No injuries reported.  Loss was a cell phone, cash and loose change.  Suspect fled the area on foot and possibly to a waiting get-away vehicle.

These incidents continue to be investigated by the City of Fort Wayne Police Department and the Allen County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.  Anyone with information is asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers.

For Release: January 15, 2012

 

Fort Wayne, Ind. - A strong arm robbery to an individual was reported early this morning:

 

January 15, 2013, 12:06 am - 5223 Stonehedge Blvd. - Female victim reported that as she was exiting her vehicle, the perpetrator approached her and grabbed her purse, but the purse strap was wrapped around her neck and so the perpetrator was unable to take it.  The victim reported that the perpetrator slammed her against a tree before fleeing the area on foot.

 

January 15, 2013, 10:12 am - 5467 N. Clinton St. - Female victim reported that upon returning home from walking her dog, she was attacked inside her apartment building by a male subject.  When the victim did not immediately comply with his demands, he struck her several times about the face.  On alert that there had been previously reported similar incidents in apartment complexes, the victim had a weapon (knife) nearby for her personal security.  During the physical attack, the perpetrator gained access to this weapon and used it upon the victim.  She suffered what appeared to be a stab wound and was transported to a local hospital in serious condition.  There was no reported loss. 

 

These incidents continue to be investigated by the City of Fort Wayne Police Department and the Allen County Prosecuting Attorney's Office.  Anyone with information is asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers.

 For Release: January 18, 2013

January 18, 2013, 2:43 pm - 5209 N. Clinton St. - Female victim reported that as she was exiting her apartment, a male subject wearing a black ski mask appeared in the foyer of her apartment building.  He demanded her phone and keys from her while keeping his hand in his pocket acting as if he was holding a weapon, though no weapon was reported to have ever been displayed. The victim reported that she screamed out and that the perpetrator then fled the area on foot.  There were no injuries reported, and no loss.

Arrest Made in Robbery Investigation, Island Club Apartment Complex
Investigators Urge Residents to Remain Vigilant
 
Fort Wayne, Ind - An arrest has been made in connection with a reported robbery that occurred on January 10, 2013 at approximately 10:12 pm at 8709 Gulf Dr., Island Club Apartment Complex, where a female resident reported being followed into her apartment building and forced into her home at gunpoint by two male subjects. The perpetrators then bound the hands of the residents and took several items before fleeing.
 
Today, Devonte M. Hamlet, age 20, of Fort Wayne, was taken into custody by Fort Wayne Police and transported to the Allen County Jail on two counts of robbery with a deadly weapon, and three counts of criminal confinement.
 
This is one of numerous robbery investigations that have occurred recently in apartment communities. The Fort Wayne Police Department continues to investigate these incidents and though detectives are making significant progress with these investigations, apartment residents are encouraged to remain vigilant.

Second Arrest Made in String of Apartment Robberies

Police Encourage Continued Vigilance

 

Arrested:          Corey L. Harris, age 21, Fort Wayne

Charges:           Receiving Stolen Property, Obstruction of Justice

 

Fort Wayne, Ind – A second individual has been charged in connection to a string of robberies that occurred in apartment complexes during the month of January.  Today, Corey L. Harris, age 21, of Fort Wayne, was taken into custody by Fort Wayne Police Detectives and transported to the Allen County Jail on two separate charges: Receiving Stolen Property, and Obstruction of Justice.  Evidence discovered during the execution of a search warrant at Harris’ home linked him to a robbery investigation that occurred on January 8, 2013 at 2122 Ardmore Avenue, the Autumn Creek Apartment Complex.  The investigation has since revealed that Harris assisted in disposing of property or item(s) taken during the robbery.

 

The Fort Wayne Police Department continues to investigate these incidents and additional arrests are anticipated.  Apartment residents are encouraged to remain vigilant.

Third Arrest Made in String of Apartment Robberies

Police Encourage Continued Vigilance

 

Arrested:        Tiron B. Beard, age 21, Fort Wayne

Charges:         Receiving Stolen Property

 

Fort Wayne, Ind – A third individual has been charged in connection to a string of robberies that occurred in apartment complexes during the month of January.  Yesterday evening, Tiron B. Beard, age 21, of Fort Wayne, and was taken into police custody and transported to the Allen County Jail on a charge of Receiving Stolen Property.  Evidence discovered during the course of the month-long investigation linked Beard to a robbery investigation that occurred on January 10, 2013 at 8709 Gulf Drive.
