Investigators Need Help in Identifying Purse Snatching Suspect
Fort Wayne, Ind – The City of Fort Wayne Police Department is presently investigating a strong arm robbery that occurred on Sunday, September 2, 2012 at approximately 9:57 am in the area of Fairfield Avenue and Berry Street, in downtown Fort Wayne. The victim, a thirty-eight year old female, was walking in the area and stopped to see a snail along the sidewalk when a male subject approached her from behind and snatched her purse from her and then fled east of that location. Detectives recovered the victim’s purse and wallet nearby, and the victim reported that her cash was still missing. There were no injuries reported at the scene.
Suspect Description: Male/Black, approximately 5’8”, having a dark complexion.
During the course of the investigation, the detective obtained video footage of the perpetrator, and the detective believes that it is possible that the perpetrator frequents the downtown area. Anyone recognizing the individual in the video footage is asked to contact the Fort Wayne Police Department, or Crime Stoppers at 260 436-STOP (7867) where a cash reward is possible for information received.
This incident remains under investigation with the City of Fort Wayne Police Department, and the Allen County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
