Location:      5317 S. Bend Drive
Victim:         First Federal Savings Bank
Loss:            Cash Loss
On Wednesday, September 12, 2012 at approximately 9:08 am the City of Fort Wayne Police Department responded to First Federal Savings Bank at 5311 S. Bend Drive reference a report of a bank robbery.  Preliminary investigation indicates that a male black subject entered the bank shortly after the bank had opened for business.  This subject was wearing a ball cap and appeared distracted by a paper document he was holding in his hand.  Detectives believe that this was an attempt by the perpetrator to avoid having an image of his face captured via video surveillance.  This subject approached the counter, raised the hood of his hooded-sweatshirt over his head and then brandished a firearm at the two tellers that were inside the bank.  A second subject entered the bank as well, and this subject demanded money from the tellers.  The perpetrators fled with an undetermined amount of cash.
There were no customers inside the bank when this incident occurred, and injuries have not been reported at this time.  Crime Scene Technicians remain at the scene at this time processing the scene for potential evidence.  There is no suspect vehicle description at this time, and members of the Northeast Indiana Bank Robbery Task Force are presently interviewing bank employees and are inquiring as to any possible video surveillance.
Earlier this week, investigators with the task force responded to the CHASE Bank in the 6100 block of N. Clinton Street reference a bank robbery ( ).  At this time, there is not sufficient information to determine if the two incidents are related, though detectives are not ruling out the possibility that they are.  Today's incident marks the second bank robbery this week, and a total of eight for year 2012.  Financial institutions are encouraged to periodically review security measures, and investigators ask that any suspicious activity or suspicious persons immediately be reported to police.
This incident remains under investigation by the Northeast Indiana Bank Robbery Task Force.  This task force is composed of investigators with the City of Fort Wayne Police Department, Allen County Sheriff Department, Indiana State Police, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
