On Tuesday, July 31, 2012 at approximately 9:55 a.m. the City of Fort Wayne Police Department responded to an apartment home in the 7900 block of Serenity Drive reference a possible barricade and hostage situation. Information had been obtained that a subject wanted for questioning in an ongoing investigation was in the apartment home. Further investigation indicated that the subject was possibly armed, and possibly holding the residents of the home against their will. The Emergency Services Team (EST) and Crisis Response Team (CRT) were called to assist in this investigation. Shortly after twelve-noon, the female resident along with two teenagers and a toddler left the apartment home safely, and the barricade suspect surrendered to authorities without incident. He was taken into police custody and was later transported to the Allen County Jail on an unrelated warrant. There were no injuries reported at the scene.
This incident remains under investigation with the City of Fort Wayne Police Department and the Allen County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
