Shooting Investigation


Date/Time of Incident:  July 12th, 2012/ 9:26 p.m.

Location of Incident:     4800 Gaywood Dr.

Victim:                        Female Child, age 3 / Critical Condition

                                  Adult Male / Stable Condition


On Thursday, July 12th, 2012 at 9:26 p.m., the City of Fort Wayne Police Department responded to the 4800 block of Gaywood Dr. reference a reported shooting. Officers arrived on the scene and located a juvenile female and an adult male suffering from an apparent gunshot wound(s). Both victims were transported to a local hospital, where the female remains in critical condition and the male remains in stable condition.


At this time it is believed a group of people, including the victims, were standing in a yard at the intersection of Gaywood Dr and E. Maple Grove Ave. An unknown group of males approached, and began shooting at the group standing in the yard. The adult male and juvenile female were struck by gunfire.


Investigators are currently interviewing possible witnesses and are canvassing the area for evidence. There is no one in custody at this time nor have any motives been established. It is unknown at this time if the female child was an intended target or not.


This incident remains under investigation by the City of Fort Wayne Police Department, and the Allen County Prosecuting Attorney's Office. Anyone with information reference this incident is asked to contact the City of Fort Wayne Police or Crime Stoppers.
