Child Neglect Investigation / 2100 Fairfield Avenue

Details:

On Monday May 7, 2012 at approximately 5:31 PM, the Fort Wayne Police Department

responded to the Belmont Beverage located at 2116 Fairfield Ave in reference

to a child neglect investigation. As officers were responding to the scene, they received

information that someone had called 911 advising that they observed a male and female

strap four young children to the hood of a car and leave the Belmont Beverage lot. A

United States Marshal observed the vehicle with the children strapped to the hood traveling

on Fairfield near the Belmont location. The U.S. Marshall stopped the car in the 400 block

of Poplar Street.

Officers arrived on the scene and arrested the male adult driver for operating while

intoxicated and other charges are pending. The female adult was transported to

police headquarters for questioning. The children are ages 4,5,6,and 7. Employees with

the Department of Children Services were also called to the scene.

This incident remains under investigation by the Fort Wayne Police Department, Allen

County Prosecutors Office, and the Department of Children Services.
