Today, at approximately 2:25 p.m. the City of Fort Wayne Police Department responded to three area school buildings reference reports of bomb threats. Two 911-calls were received wherein the caller stated that the schools were going to blow up. The schools were notified of the threats made, and officers responded to those schools to investigate. During the course of the investigation no suspicious packages or items or persons were discovered on school premises, and no injuries were reported.
The investigation revealed that a juvenile male had placed the calls from a cellular telephone that was traced back to a home in the 400 block of Treeline Cove. The juvenile was detained by police, and later transported to the Allen County Juvenile Center for False Reporting (making a bomb threat over telephone lines), a class D felony.
A bomb-sniffing canine of the Allen County Sheriff's Department assisted in surveying one school building. This incident remains under investigation by the City of Fort Wayne Police Department's Juvenile Aid Division, and the Allen County Prosecuting Attorney's Office.
