Suspect:                           Adult Male, age 39

On Monday, February 13, 2012 at approximately 10:59 am, the City of Fort Wayne Police Department responded to a home located in the 1700 block of Wisteria Place reference a report of a suicidal subject, armed with a firearm, and who had reportedly barricaded himself inside the home.  Prior to officers arriving, family members inside the home fled to safety.

Officers with the Fort Wayne Police Department's Emergency Services Team and the Crisis Response Team were dispatched to the scene to assist in the investigation.  Several unsuccessful attempts were made to contact the suspect inside the home.  On the final attempt, contact was made with the suspect by telephone and he reportedly was preparing to surrender.  He surrendered peacefully to a team of EST officers, and he was taken into police custody without incident and transported to a local hospital for a mental health evaluation.  There were no injuries reported at the scene.

Two adjacent homes were evacuated during the course of this investigation, and a firearm was discovered inside the home.

This incident remains under investigation by the City of Fort Wayne Police Department and the Allen County Prosecutor's Office.
