Investigators with the City of Fort Wayne Police Department’s Hazardous Devices Unit continue to process the scene at 2600 River Cove Trail. It is further believed that the rock-like substance exploded while the injured party chiseled at it causing significant injury to his hand. The injured party’s two teenaged children were present when this incident occurred with at least one sustaining an injury due to the explosion. That individual was transported to a local hospital and has since been treated and released. The exact chemical makeup of that substance remains under investigation.
Bomb technicians discovered, through a search warrant, several items inside the home that are commonly used in the manufacture of bombs, and explosive devices. This incident remains under investigation with the City of Fort Wayne Police Department, the ATF (Alcohol Tobacco Firearms and Explosives Bureau) and the Allen County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office. There is nothing further at this time.
