Shooting Investigation

1723 E. Wayne Street, Sports & Spirits

Date/Time of Incident:          October 11, 2011 / 2:34 a.m.

Location of Incident:             1723 E. Wayne Street, Sports & Spirits

Victim:                                    Male, age 36 / Critical Condition

On Tuesday, October 11, 2011, at approximately 2:34 a.m. the Fort Wayne Police Department responded to 1723 E. Wayne Street reference a report of a possible shooting.  The first officer on the scene located a subject outside of the establishment suffering from what appeared to be a gunshot wound.  The victim, a male adult, was determined to be in serious condition by paramedics at the scene, and he was transported to a local hospital where his condition was downgraded to critical.

Preliminary investigation indicates that there was a disturbance between at least two females outside of the establishment that escalated into a physical altercation.  Witnesses report that during this altercation, a male subject was attempting to separate one female from the altercation and he was reportedly shot by a second male subject who then fled the scene on foot.

Officers immediately established a perimeter in the area and a Canine Unit assisted with the investigation.  One subject who fled the scene on foot was apprehended in a nearby alley and was detained.  Another subject who fled the scene on foot was located by officers hiding on the porch of a home within the established perimeter; he was later found to have an active local escape warrant.  Witnesses continue to be interviewed by detectives.  At this time, there are no arrests.

This incident remains under investigation by the City of Fort Wayne Police Department, and the Allen County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
