Disturbance Escalates to Gun Fire

Male Adult in Police Custody

Date/Time of Incident:     July 8, 2011, 12:43 p.m.

Location of Incident:        500 Berwyn Lane

Victim:                              Male Adult, Serious Condition

On Friday, July 8, 2011, the Fort Wayne Police Department responded to a home in the 500 block of Berwyn Lane reference a disturbance with possible gun fire. Officers arrived on the scene and in a home in the 500 block of Berwyn Lane they located a male adult subject suffering from what appeared to be gunshot wound(s). The victim was transported from the scene in serious condition to a local hospital.

A second subject who was involved fled the scene on foot. Witnesses provided officers with a description of that subject, and a Canine Unit began a track. The Canine Unit and his partner successfully tracked the suspect to a home in the 6700 block of John Street where officers took him into custody without incident.

Preliminary information suggests a disturbance amongst neighbors precipitated the gun fire. Witnesses and other parties involved are presently being interviewed by detectives. The incident remains under investigation by the Fort Wayne Police Department and the Allen County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
