Stabbing Disturbance – Death Investigation

Arrested: Aung Kyaw Thu, 38 year old, Fort Wayne
On Wednesday, July 6, 2011, at approximately 2:00 a.m. the Fort Wayne Police Department received a 911 call from a male who indicated that he needed help. A Burmese translation line indicated that there was a disturbance and a possible stabbing. Upon officers arrival they found a male suffering from apparent stab wound(s). When medics arrived they pronounced the male victim deceased.
The Fort Wayne Investigative Bureau was able to successfully work with Burmese translators and make an apprehension at the scene. The suspect was transported to the police station then later arrested on the charge of AGGRAVATED BATTERY and transported to the Allen County Jail.
Preliminary investigation indicates that there was a disturbance between the victim and the suspect when the stabbing occurred. There will be an autopsy today to determine the exact cause and manner of death.
This incident remains under investigation with the Fort Wayne Police Department, the Allen County Coroner's Office, and the Allen County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
