Fatal Two Car Crash
Date/Time of Incident: March 29th, 2011, 1:28 a.m.
Location of Incident: Hessen Cassel Rd. at Mckinnie Ave.
Driver 1: Male Adult of Fort Wayne
Driver 2: Male Adult of Fort Wayne
The Fort Wayne Police Department was dispatched in reference to a two car crash this morning at 1:28 am, near the intersection of Hessen Cassel Rd. and Mckinnie Ave. Several callers reported that the drivers of both vehicles were trapped in their cars and that one vehicle was on fire. Officers arrived along with medics and located the crash just south of Mckinnie Ave. on Hessen Cassel Rd. The two vehicles involved were a black-colored Oldsmobile Aurora and a blue-colored Chevy Lumina. Medics declared the driver of the Chevy Lumina deceased at the scene. The driver of the black Oldsmobile was taken to a local hospital in fair condition. The F.A.C.T. (Fatal Alcohol Crash Team) was paged in and took over the investigation.
What we know so far is that the black Oldsmobile was north bound on Hessen Cassel Rd. approaching Mckinnie Ave. The blue Chevy was south bound on Hessen Cassel Rd. and had just crossed Mckinnie Ave. For reasons unknown at this time the black Oldsmobile crossed the center line striking the blue Chevy head on. There were no passengers in either car. Alcohol appears to be a factor in this crash. Neither car was found to be on fire.
This crash remains under investigation by the Fort Wayne Police Department, The Allen County Coroner's Office, and the Allen County Prosecutor's Office.
