Semi-Tractor Trailer Roll Over Reduces South Bound Traffic on I-69 to One Lane
On March 25, 2011 at approximately 2:10 p.m., the Fort Wayne Police Department responded t o a report of a personal injury accident involving two semi-tractor trailer trucks at I-69 south bound, mile marker 102. A semi-tractor trailer coming onto I-69 south bound from the west bound Jefferson Blvd. exit (Exit 102) reportedly experienced a shift in load, and rolled over onto its side clipping the rear of another semi-tractor trailer that was traveling south bound on the interstate. The semi-tractor trailer, which was hauling water softener salt, then collided with the center barrier wall where it came to rest. The driver was transported to a local hospital in fair condition. The second semi-tractor trailer safely exited traffic, and the driver reported no injuries at the scene.
The south bound exit onto I-69 from west bound Jefferson Blvd. was immediately closed to traffic, and the south bound lanes on I-69 at mile marker 102 were reduced to one lane of traffic. It was expected that these closures would remain in place for approximately four hours to allow for the semi-tractor trailer to be unloaded, placed upright, and safely cleared from the scene.
The Indiana State Police, the Fort Wayne Fire Department, and the Indiana Department of Transportation assisted at the scene as well.
