Fatal Vehicle Crash

Date: 10/30/2021

Time: 8:12 am

Location: 1300 Oak Bay Run

Victim: Adult Male / Deceased

Details:

On October 30, 2021, at 8:12am officers with the Fort Wayne Police Department responded to a report of a vehicle upside down in a pond in the 1300 block of Oak Bay Run after a passerby walking down the sidewalk noticed the vehicle. Officers arrived and observed the submerged vehicle about 50 yards out.

While the Fort Wayne Fire Department began tending to the vehicle, officers spoke with a nearby neighbor who advised they heard a loud crash around midnight but was not able to see any indications of a crash. Initial evidence on the scene did indicate the vehicle had been submerged for several hours.

The Fort Wayne Fire Department dive team entered the water but were not able to confirm whether the vehicle was occupied as there was zero visibility in the water due to the tremendous amount of clay and other muck. Around 10:45 am, the vehicle was finally able to be freed from the water and medical personnel indicated there was one deceased adult male located inside the vehicle. There were no other persons located.

Initial information indicates the vehicle was traveling eastbound on Northland Blvd at a high rate of speed, and for some reason did not try to turn onto Oak Bay Run but instead continued straight and left the roadway. Investigators will work to determine what caused this.

The Allen County Coroner’s Office will release the exact cause and manner of death as well as the identity of the decedent. This incident remains under investigation.
