Motor Vehicle Accident Investigation

Details:
On September 17, 2021 at 8:15 pm an Officer with the Fort Wayne Police Department observed a dark colored passenger car heading South on Anthony near Columbia Avenue that was swerving in the driving lane, and was driving with no lights on as well.
The Officer initiated their emergency lights to stop the vehicle at which time the vehicle stopped and as the Officer approached the vehicle and began to speak with the driver at which time he fled from the traffic stop and continued South on Anthony and disregarded the Emergency lights and siren and refused to stop for the Officer. The vehicle continued South on Anthony disregarding Automatic Signals and as the vehicle crossed Maumee Avenue the driver began to lose control of the vehicle.
Approximately a minute after the traffic stop was initiated the vehicle left the roadway at 8:16 pm and struck a front porch of a house and then continued further down striking another home as well as tree in the front yard before coming to a stop. The driver was pinned in the vehicle for a short time and after being extricated from the vehicle was transported to a local hospital with Non-Life Threatening Injuries.
The Fort Wayne Police Fatal Investigators along with the Air Support Units were called to the scene to investigate this accident. Initial indications would suggest that excessive speed was a contributing factor to his accident. This incident is being investigated by the Fort Wayne Police Department, and the Allen County Prosecutor's Office.
It should also be noted that a portion of South Anthony between Maumee and Alliger will be closed during this investigation and the roadway will be opened as soon as the investigation is complete
