Details:
On Monday June 7, 2021 at approximately 7:52 AM officers with the Fort Wayne Police Department responded to an apartment located in the 2000 block of Woodhaven Drive (Winchester Woods Apartments) in reference to a burglary in progress. As officers arrived on the scene, they located a male standing on a 2nd floor balcony while armed with a knife. The male refused to open the door to the apartment to allow officers inside or come outside to speak with officers as he went back into the apartment and continued to come outside.
After several attempts to communicate with the male, officers with the Emergency Services Team, Crisis Response Team, and Air Support Unit were dispatched to the scene. A short time later, the male jumped off the balcony and surrendered to police. The male was transported to the Fort Wayne Police Detective Bureau to be interviewed by investigators. It was unknown at this time what criminal charges the male may face.
