Life-Threatening Vehicle Accident

Date: 10/6/2020

Time: 3:35 am

Location: 1600 W. Jefferson Blvd

Victim:   Male, unknown age

Details:

On October 6, 2020, officers with the Fort Wayne Police Department responded to a report of a vehicle in the river in the 1600 block of W. Jefferson Blvd. Officers arrived and spoke to a witness who called 911 after locating a vehicle in the river just south of the bridge across from Swinney Park. The vehicle was found to be occupied by one male who was determined to be in life-threatening condition.

At this time, it appears the vehicle was traveling westbound and for some unknown reason, left the roadway and entered the river. There were no other vehicles involved and no other injuries. Investigators are currently trying to piece together what happened. They will be taking measurements and interviewing any witnesses to determine why the vehicle left the roadway.

Eastbound traffic will be shutdown for several hours; people are asked to avoid the area. Westbound traffic will be shutdown for another hour or so. Anyone with any information is asked to contact police.
