Fatal Traffic Accident

Date: 9/18/2020

Location: Coliseum Blvd & Vance Ave

Time: 3:46 AM

Details:

On Friday September 18, 2020 at approximately 3:46 AM officers with the Fort Wayne Police Department responded to a domestic investigation at a residence located in the 2600 block of Kenwood Ave.  As officers arrived on the scene, they received information that a male that was involved in the domestic investigation was not currently at the residence. While officers were on the scene, they observed the male drive by the residence in a vehicle.

Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop with the vehicle as it left the area at a high rate of speed. The vehicle failed to stop as officers activated their emergency lights and siren on their fully marked squad cars. The vehicle then led officers on a very short vehicle pursuit before officers terminated the pursuit as the vehicle continued traveling eastbound on Vance at a high rate of speed.

As the vehicle approached the intersection of Coliseum Blvd and Vance Ave, the vehicle disregarded a red light at the intersection as it collided with a truck that was traveling northbound on Coliseum. The male driver of the vehicle was pronounced to be deceased at the scene and the driver of the truck suffered minor injuries.

The identity of the deceased driver will be released at a later time by the Allen County Coroners Office.  Investigators with the Fort Wayne Police Department’s FACT Team was dispatched to the scene to process the scene.

Intersections that are currently closed are Coliseum Blvd from State to Hobson and Vance Ave from Inwood to Farnsworth.
