Suicide Attempt

Date: 7/28/2020

Location: 4509 Warsaw Street Fort Wayne

Time: 10:07 am

Details:

On 7/28/2020 at approximately 10:07 am officers were dispatched to 4509 Warsaw Street for the report of suicide threats.  Initial information indicated there was a note on the front door of the house that may have been suicidal in nature.  Officers arrived and did locate a note on the door.  To de-escalate the situation, officers attempted to make contact with the adult male inside via loud speaker.  They did not receive a response from anyone inside.  A few moments later there was an explosion, causing the windows of the house to break and the house was on fire.  An adult male then walked out the back door of the residence holding a gun to his head.  Officers verbally made contact with the male, letting him know they were there to help and trying to encourage him to put the gun down.  A few seconds later the male shot himself in the head.  Officers pulled the man to safety in the alley and emergency medical personnel began to treat him at the scene.  He was transported to a local hospital with life threatening injuries.  Fort Wayne Police Detectives and Crime Scene Units, along with Fort Wayne Fire Department personnel are on scene speaking with witnesses and gathering evidence.

The Fort Wayne Police Department would like to encourage anyone who is having mental health issues or contemplating suicide to please call the 911.  If we can’t help you, we will guide you to resources in our community that can.
