Location: 3000 Block of East Maumee Ave.
Victim: 1 Adult Male (Serious Condition)
On Aug 12, 2017 at 9:49 pm a Fort Wayne Police Sergeant while on routine patrol observed a vehicle in the area of Maumee and Glasgow that was speeding and driving reckless. The Sergeant attempted to initiate a traffic stop at which time the vehicle proceeded to pull over and as the Sergeant stopped behind the vehicle it then proceeded to flee from the Sergeant. The driver of the vehicle then lost control of the vehicle at the intersection of Maumee and Edsall. The vehicle left the roadway and proceeded to roll over several times before coming to rest against a fence just east of the intersection. The driver then exited the vehicle and fled on foot for a short distance before collapsing in a nearby lot.
The Sergeant called for paramedics to provide medical aid to the driver. The driver was transported to a local hospital in serious condition. The driver remains at a local hospital, and criminal charges are pending.
The Fort Wayne Police Department Crash Investigation Team was called to the scene to investigate the accident. Preliminary information indicates that the vehicle was recently stolen from Adams County Indiana. It also appears as though speed and alcohol were contributing factors to the accident. As a result of the accident there was a portion of both Eastbound Maumee and Westbound Washington that were closed to the east and West of Edsall. The portions of the roads will be closed until the Crash Investigation Team completes their investigation
This incident is being investigated by the Fort Wayne Police Department, and the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office, and the Adams County Sheriffs Department
