Fatal Motor Vehicle Accident

Fort Wayne police responded to the report of a multi vehicle accident in the intersection of Coliseum and Parnell Avenue at approximately 1:35 p.m. this afternoon. Once on scene officers observed a four vehicle crash with one of the drivers that were involved in cardiac arrest. That victim was transported from the scene to a local hospital in critical condition but later was pronounced deceased.
Preliminary information based on witness accounts indicates that a vehicle was traveling east on Coliseum Boulevard at a high rate of speed never slowed and rear ended a SUV that was stopped at a red light on Coliseum at Parnell. The collision resulted in two other vehicles being hit that were also stopped at the light. The driver of the vehicle responsible for the accident along with his passenger was seen fleeing the scene to the south through area retail businesses parking lots. None of the other two drivers of the vehicles involved were transported from the scene to a hospital for treatment.
Several minutes after the crash officers responded to a 911 call that was reporting the perpetrating vehicle as being stolen. When officers arrived to meet with the complainant they realized he matched the description of the driver seen leaving the scene of the accident and detained him. This incident remains under investigation by the Fort Wayne police and the Allen County Prosecutor’s office.
