Fatal Traffic Crash

Location: E. Coliseum Blvd and Parnell Ave
Victim: Adult Male/ Deceased
On May 2, 2016, at 2:45 AM, officers with the Fort Wayne Police Department responded to the intersection of E. Coliseum Blvd and Parnell Ave on a report of a traffic crash with a party pinned in a vehicle. Officers arrived and located an adult male in the driver’s seat of a black car. The Fort Wayne Fire Department extricated the driver, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
At this time it appears the vehicle was traveling westbound on E. Coliseum Blvd, when it left the north side of the roadway and struck the traffic signal control box located at the northeast corner of the intersection. There were no other vehicles involved and the driver was the only occupant.
It is yet to be determined what caused the driver to leave the roadway. At present it is unknown if speed or alcohol played a role in this crash.
Crash investigators are currently collecting evidence and processing the scene. Westbound traffic on E. Coliseum Blvd remains restricted to one lane while the investigation takes place.
The identity of the driver, as well as the cause and manner of death will be released by the Allen County Coroner’s Office. This incident remains under investigation by the Fort Wayne Police Department, and the Allen County Coroner’s Office.
