Location: W. Jefferson Blvd and W. Main St
Victim: Adult Male / Deceased
Details: On June 5, 2017, at 10:05pm, the Fort Wayne Police Department received reports of an injury accident at the intersection of W. Jefferson Blvd and W. Main St. Officers arrived and located an SUV on the south side of the intersection that had rolled over, and an adult male was pinned underneath. The adult male was pronounced deceased on the scene.
Initial information indicates the SUV was eastbound on W. Jefferson Blvd, and something caused the SUV – being driven by an adult male who was the sole occupant – to leave the roadway as it approached W. Main St. The SUV went off of the south side of the roadway, struck a utility pole, then a parked vehicle, and then rolled over. The male driver was ejected, and subsequently partially pinned underneath the SUV. Upon being extricated, he was pronounced deceased by paramedics.
At this time, it is unknown why the vehicle left the roadway. No other vehicles were involved, other than the parked truck that the SUV struck before rolling. It was initially reported that the vehicle was on fire, however first responders saw no indication of a fire. Anyone in the area at the time of the crash will be interviewed by police. Investigators will be taking measurements and collecting evidence, striving to determine what caused this crash. Any nearby businesses with video surveillance will be sought.
The exact cause and manner of death, as well as the identity of the deceased, will be released by the Allen County Coroner’s Office.
This intersection will remain closed until the investigation is complete.
This remains under investigation by the Fort Wayne Police Department and the Allen County Coroner’s Office.
