Time:                           7:15 p.m.

Location:                    E. Washington Boulevard and Harmar Street

Deceased:                   Adult Male/Dead on Scene

Injured:                      Adult Male/Serious Condition

The Fort Wayne Police Department is investigating a fatal motor vehicle accident which involves two motor vehicles, a passenger car and a pickup truck. At approximately 7:15 p.m. officers responded to the scene along with fire and medics personnel to find a pickup truck that had sustained major damage and had come to rest on a utility pole. That driver was pinned in his vehicle and determined to be dead on scene. The second vehicle involved came to rest in the intersection of E. Washington Boulevard and Harmar Street. The driver of that vehicle was transported to a local hospital where he was listed in serious condition.

Based on witness accounts the passenger vehicle was traveling west on E. Washington Boulevard at a high rate of speed and impacted the rear of the pickup truck that was stopped in traffic just prior to the intersection. The impact sent the pickup into the utility pole pinning the driver inside. At this time crash investigators are pointing to speed and alcohol as contributing factors in this incident. Power in the immediate area was knocked out due to the crash affecting the traffic signals and a small number of homes. Traffic is being diverted onto secondary streets to allow for the investigation and eventual repairs of the utilities. This incident is being investigated by the Fort Wayne Police Department, Allen County Prosecutor’s office and the Allen County Coroner’s office.
