Post Military cop wants to become a civilian cop.
Hi! My husband has been a military cop for 6 years and a narcotics investigator for 2 years. He gets out of the military in September of this year and wants to become a civilian police officer in Fort Wayne, his hometown. What would be the best steps for him to start completing this now to ensure he will have a job waiting for him by next fall? Does he have a good chance of getting in with his military cop background? Also, would it be more beneficial for him to complete the police academy training in the fall? Is there a chance he can get hired onto a department before going to the academy?

Thank you for your help!

mhmd4031,

Unfortunately, we are not accepting applications at this time. The best steps your husband can take is to continue to check this website for hiring announcements. The only way to become a Fort Wayne Police Officer is to apply during an application process, go through the rigorous hiring and interview process, and then successfully completing the Police Academy. His military background would be a benefit during the training process, but does not guarantee employment. Thanks for the post.
