Is it okay to ride around with a assualt rifle or a shotgun in your trunk with out license?

Question: Why would you want to ride around with either of these weapons in your vehicle? Explain your reasoning please.

I was wondering what if you are going to a shooting range or hunting. Then you get pulled over. Can the police charge you for these guns.

Unloaded in the trunk and you will be fine. Don't forget to have your gun locks in place as well.

I drive a pickup extend cab and also shoot at a range. Would I be in any violation keeping my gun in a closed gun case, not loaded in the back cab of the truck and the ammo on the floor board in the front?

Yes however I trust you mean "only" to and from the range and not permanently left in the vehicle.
