Where is the correct place to put my 30 day temporary license plate?

Upon the rear of the vehicle, securely fastened and in a horizontal position. It is considered an improper display and the driver of the vehicle may be cited accordingly if the temporary plate is placed in the rear window.

yes, this also varies from state to state. It is important to look up the rules in each city in which you are traveling.
