Time:                                    11:30 a.m.

Location:                            Spy Run Avenue and State Boulevard

Victim:                                 Adult Male

Last Reported Critical Condition

Officers with the Fort Wayne Police Department responded to the area of Spy Run Avenue and State Boulevard at approximately 11:30 a.m. this morning on a reported shooting. Once on scene officers observed the victim in the front passenger seat of vehicle suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. The victim was transported from the scene to a local where he was last reported to be in critical condition.

Investigators have learned that a friend had driven to the victim’s home in the 1000 block of Lake Avenue to pick the victim up to have lunch. The victim had just entered the vehicle when a male dressed in a black hooded sweatshirt walked up to the passenger side window and fire a round from a handgun striking the victim. In a panic the friend immediately drove from the area ending up at Spy Run and State where he called police. The friend was not injured in this incident. During the course of the investigation detectives were able to develop a person of interest due to witness cooperation. That information eventually led officers to a home in the 5600 block of Winter Street where the person of interest was taken into custody without incident. Detectives are presently interviewing this person to determine involvement, motive and pending charges.

This incident remains under investigation by the Fort Wayne Police Department, and Allen County Prosecutor’s office.
