Victim: Adult Female / Critical Condition


On June 24, 2017, at 12:32am, officers with the Fort Wayne Police Department responded to reports of gunshots in the 2300 block of E. State St. While officers were responding, dispatch received a call from Parkview Hospital in the 2300 block of. E. State St. that an adult female suffering from a gunshot wound(s) was dropped off, and that she was in critical condition. She was transferred to another local hospital where she remains in critical condition.

Initial information indicates that the female was an occupant in a vehicle at the intersection of E. State St and Carew St, when gunshots were fired and the female was struck. At this time, it is not clear if the female was the intended target or simply a bystander.

Detectives are speaking with witnesses, trying to ascertain what happened. Investigators will be checking with nearby businesses to see if there is any video surveillance available. Shell casings were located in the intersection, so detectives and crime scene units will be trying to determine if they are related to this shooting.

This incident remains under investigation by the Fort Wayne Police Department and the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office.
